Hot Flashes, Real Talk, and a CEO on a Mission: 5 (and a half) Questions with Sally Mueller of Womaness
Because midlife isn’t something to endure… it’s something to own!
Menopause used to be the storm no one warned us about - just sweat, fog, and pain we were told to tough out quietly.
Not anymore.
Thanks to women like Sally Mueller, CEO and co-founder of Womaness, menopause is finally stepping into the spotlight where it belongs. Womaness isn’t just a brand - it’s a movement. They’re doctor-tested, estrogen-free, vegan, and unapologetically bold, offering clean skincare, supplements, and sexual wellness essentials designed for women who aren’t slowing down. They’re rewriting the midlife narrative, sparking conversations, and handing us the tools (and confidence) to take charge of our health, our bodies, and our sanity.
So naturally, I had to ask Sally the questions many of us want answers to.
You co-founded Womaness to smash menopause taboos wide open. What was the moment you knew midlife women needed a brand like this, and that you were the one to build it?
Sally: My “Aha” Moment: Why I Started Womaness For a few years, I just didn’t feel like myself. I was struggling with sleep, anxiety, low libido — you name it — and I couldn’t figure out why. I assumed it was stress from work, too many flights, and not enough downtime. Sound familiar?
Eventually, I decided to get serious about finding answers and made an appointment with a doctor who specialized in women’s health. After describing what I was going through, she looked at me kindly and said, “This is menopause.”
Honestly, I was surprised. No one had ever connected the dots for me before. She reassured me that I wasn’t alone and then handed me a list of products to buy on Amazon. I remember looking at that list later and thinking, There is no way I’m using these. The products weren’t clean. The packaging felt outdated. They looked like they’d been created decades ago… by men, for women they didn’t truly understand.
That night, I told my husband, “I want to create something better - something that actually speaks to women like me.”
And that was my aha moment.
I realized that women deserve modern solutions for menopause and beyond - products that are clean, clinically proven, affordable, and made with women in mind. But more than that, women deserve education, support, and a community that reminds us we’re not alone in this transition. Having spent my career building brands for women, I knew I could help reimagine what aging looks and feels like. That spark became Womaness, a brand designed to celebrate this stage of life, not hide it.
So many of us were taught to whisper about hot flashes, brain fog, or vaginal dryness like they were dirty little secrets. How is Womaness flipping the script and helping women speak about menopause louder, prouder, and without apology?
Sally: From day one, we made a commitment to help women speak louder, prouder, and without apology about what’s happening in their bodies. That meant surrounding ourselves with the best doctors and experts to provide trustworthy, science-backed education.
Through our blog, The Ness, we’ve published hundreds of articles that guide women through every stage of menopause - from the early signs of perimenopause to post-menopause and beyond. Our experts share insights on everything from hormone therapy and nutrition to mental health and relationships. And we’re adding new content all the time, because women deserve access to up-to-date, honest information.
We also created The After Party, our private Facebook community of nearly 10,000 women. It’s a place where women connect, share, and learn from one another — because sometimes the best advice comes from someone who’s been there too.
When Michelle and I launched Womaness, we pitched every major media outlet with one goal in mind: to change the conversation around menopause and aging. In the early days, some outlets told us that “women didn’t want to hear about vaginas at 9:00 in the morning.” But look how far we’ve come. Those same outlets are now covering menopause frequently and unapologetically.
We’re proud to have been among the first voices to shout loud and proud about menopause. And we’ll keep amplifying the conversation until every woman feels informed, empowered, and unashamed of this natural stage of life.
Your products live at the intersection of beauty, health, and science. How do you decide what women need most right now, and how do you balance real efficacy with the “feel good” factor we’re all craving?
Sally: From the very beginning, we knew Womaness had to deliver more than just beautiful packaging; it had to deliver real results. When we were first developing the product line, we conducted extensive research, including focus groups with women going through every stage of menopause. They all told us the same thing: “Create a total solution — something that helps us from head to toe.”
So that’s exactly what we did. Our first priority was efficacy. We partnered with a team of experts across multiple disciplines — a gynecologist to help design our sexual wellness products, a scientist and nutritionist to identify key supplement ingredients, and a formulator experienced in aging skin to create our skincare and body care line. Every ingredient we selected was backed by clinical research, because women deserve products that truly work.
But we also knew that science alone wasn’t enough. Women want to feel good about using these products — to see them on their vanity and feel a spark of pride, not embarrassment. That’s why we put as much care into our design and packaging as we did into the formulations themselves.
We launched with 13 products across supplements, sexual wellness, and skin and body care, covering the must-haves for women in menopause and beyond. And since our launch, we’ve continued to listen. Every week, we hear from women telling us what they love, what’s working, and what they want to see next. That feedback guides everything we create.
Because when women tell us what they need, we listen — and then we innovate.
One thing I love about Womaness is how you treat menopause like a collective journey, not a solo survival act. What have you learned from the women in your community that surprised you the most?
Sally: Menopause isn’t something any woman should have to navigate alone, and our community has shown me just how powerful it can be when we come together.
What’s surprised me most is the number of women who have made menopause their mission… whether they’re doctors, entrepreneurs, or advocates. There’s an incredible energy right now around advancing women’s health, and it’s inspiring to see so many of us working side by side to educate, innovate, and lift one another up.
I’m also deeply encouraged by the growing collaboration between doctors and brands like ours. The medical community is beginning to see the importance of combining science, innovation, and open conversation to truly move women’s health forward.
At Womaness, we believe the opportunity — and responsibility — is massive. There’s room for all of us to make a difference. Because when women unite around shared experiences and speak with one voice, real change happens.
What’s your wish for the future of menopause care?
Sally: If I could wave a magic wand, I’d make menopause care more accessible — for every woman.
Right now, too many doctors are moving toward concierge models that make care cost-prohibitive for most women. That means countless women are left navigating menopause on their own, without the information, treatment, or support they deserve.
The truth is, menopause isn’t a niche topic — it affects half the population. Yet most medical schools still don’t require menopause training as part of their curriculum. That needs to change. We should be preparing every healthcare provider to understand, diagnose, and support women through this natural phase of life.
At Womaness, we’re doing our part by making effective, science-backed products accessible to all women — not just a privileged few. But real progress will take a broader cultural shift — one where women’s health is prioritized, not sidelined.
Because when women have access to knowledge, care, and products that truly serve them, we don’t just feel better — we thrive.
Bonus Question: What’s Your Real Girl Confessional?
Sally: I’ve become a big believer in finding creative outlets to manage stress and stay centered. My latest passion? Needlepoint. I’m currently working on a Princess Diana piece I bought years ago in London — it’s both meditative and nostalgic, a way to slow down and do something with my hands after long, busy days.
I also love staying active. Tennis has always been part of my routine, but I recently picked up pickleball, and I’m hooked. There’s something about the mix of movement, laughter, and social connection that just feels good. And honestly, nothing beats the feeling of a good sweat! It clears the mind and resets the spirit.
These small rituals keep me balanced and remind me that wellness isn’t just about products or routines… it’s about joy, connection, and finding moments that make you feel fully alive.
We’ve spent too many years walking this road quietly. This moment belongs to women who won’t play small, who speak up and take up space. Real change happens when we stop going it alone.
Check out Womaness, talk with your doctor, share this with someone who needs it, and let’s make this conversation impossible to ignore.
We’ve earned every wrinkle. Might as well make more laugh lines together.
