Competence can look a lot like consent.
For years, I stepped in early. Stayed late. Held things together before anyone even asked.
Reliable becomes expected faster than you realize.
Some of what I managed wasn’t responsibility. It was habit. It was identity. It was the quiet assumption that if I could handle it, I should.
But capability is not a lifetime assignment.
These days I pay closer attention to what actually belongs to me… and what I picked up because no one else did.
Strong still fits. Overextended doesn’t.
